Are Fish a Health Food?

I’ve discussed this topic recently in my article Fish Oil, Health & Immune Function, but the information and research in this video was too compelling not to share. As always, I want you to make up your own mind based on the evidence.

Have We Forgotten Respect?

I want to take the time to offer a suggestion. In the current political, ecological, and health climate let’s not forget respect. I’ve noticed a lot of people talking; many people have opinions about what they believe is right and how they think situations should be handled. What I’m not seeing is a lot of listening, respecting different opinions, and an attempt to try and see where differing opinions are coming from. I’ll share with you a bit more by using the example of the current health crisis, COVID-19, and the idea of wearing masks.

How Often Should You Eat?

There are many different opinions about what eating schedule works best. Should you eat something small? Maybe your success lies in intermittent fasting. Three square meals a day is all you need. Don’t snack. Snack often. Don’t eat after 3p… or is it 6p. The advice is endless and I’m sure each has worked for the person giving it. Let’s look into the most talked about eating schedule opinions, explore the science behind it, and I’ll give you my opinion, as always.

Self Awareness Without the Self?

I was recently prompted with the question; can you have self awareness if you don’t know your “self”. If found this to be an intriguing question because we live in a society where the ego is the foremost identity of ‘self’ or ‘I’. We are continually programmed by television, social media, and even social circles as to who we should be and who our ‘self’ or identity is. This is feeding our baser, ego self and not who we really are. On top of that we are then prompted continually to have awareness of that ‘self’. Let’s explore together what self awareness means, and if we can have self awareness if the ego is our identity.

Animal Collagen vs. Plant Collagen

Collagen is one of the main proteins that makes up the human body. It has been advertised by supplement companies to be beneficial for everything from bone health to wrinkles. Most of the collagen we see on the market is from animal based sources. Let’s talk about what collagen is, why it’s necessary for healthy bodies, how you can get it, and finally, the difference between animal-based collagen supplements and vegan (made from plants) collagen builders.

Is Taking a Multi-Vitamin Necessary?

This is a very loaded question. There are so many supplements out there it can be mind boggling to decipher what is actually necessary for you personally. In addition to that, how do you determine quality in a market that is unregulated; even in the regulated market of supplements things aren’t drastically better. While I’d love to open this up to all supplements, for the sake of clarity let’s stick to my opinion on multi-vitamins for now. I’ll give you my opinion on if I think they’re necessary, how to determine quality, and the current debate about multi-vitamins. Hopefully, this will help you make a determination if taking a multi-vitamin is right for you and how to select one.

Should You be Doing Cardio or Strength Training First?

I get this question a lot when my clients are starting to get serious about seeing results and the answer is based on you. What is your ultimate goal? What is the reason you started on your fitness journey in the first place? Based on your answers to these questions you can determine what the best plan for your cardio routine will be. Let’s dive in to some of the most common reasons for beginning a fitness journey and when you should do cardio based on them. If your goal isn’t listed below, let me know in the comments and I’ll help you address it.

You Decide…

The reason I am sharing this with you now is because it is directly related to our current pandemic situation. So many people have been living in a state of fear and confusion, which is extremely heartbreaking to see. Whether it’s fear from getting sick or fear and confusion as to how the bills are going to be paid; both are very real fears. We do need to come together as a way of understanding both types of fear and frustration with our current situation. How do we do that, though, when both fears need drastically different things to be dispelled? The truth is, you need to make that decision for yourself.

Are You Too Clean?

Having a clean and well maintained living space is important but is there such a thing as too clean? Most experts are finding, yes, your house can be too clean resulting in various issues. What does it mean to be ‘too clean’? What are some of the issues that can arise from being too clean around the house and what can you do to avoid it? I’ll give you my perspective on the issue and also what I do to remedy the dust bunnies, germs and viruses that many of us fear are lurking in plain sight.

The Importance of Flexibility

Most people understand that building and maintaining flexibility is important, but do you know that it’s even more important than a strength training or cardiovascular routine? I hear a lot of fitness trainers, enthusiasts and therapists discuss the benefits of cardiovascular workouts and also strength workouts, but little emphasis is put on the importance of flexibility. Whether is due to the assumption that their clientele already understand flexibility is beneficial, or that they actually believe the other aspects of physical fitness are more important than flexibility, is not what I want to discuss. I want to talk about why, above cardiovascular and strength only workouts, flexibility training is the most beneficial workout regiment for overall health and wellbeing.
